  • How much does it cost to install wooden shutters?
It’s a great question — and one we get asked often. The truth is, the cost of wooden shutter installation can vary depending on several factors. These include how many shutters you need, the size of each window, the design style you choose (such as full-height, café-style, tier-on-tier, or solid panel), the material (faux wood or hardwood), your chosen colour or finish, access to the windows, and even local parking availability. A single shutter will naturally cost more per unit than ordering for an entire home, as we’re often able to offer discounts for multiple shutters fitted at once. Shutters are a premium, made-to-measure product — similar in price to good-quality double glazing. As a very rough guide, you can expect to pay anywhere between £400-£600 per shutter, fully supplied and fitted. We’re always happy to give you a clear, no-obligation estimate. Just send us a few photos of your windows and we’ll guide you through your options.
  • Do you only cover Bristol, or do you install shutters in surrounding areas too?
Although we're based in Bristol, BWD Shutters proudly serves customers across Bristol and all surrounding areas. We supply and fit shutters to homes in Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Portishead, Clevedon, Keynsham, Thornbury, Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Filton, Bradley Stoke, Emersons Green, Downend, Hanham, Long Ashton, Backwell, Nailsea, Stoke Gifford, Patchway, Frampton Cotterell, Winterbourne, Mangotsfield, Saltford, Radstock, Midsomer Norton, and Cheddar. If you're searching for shutter installation near Bristol or the surrounding areas, we’re happy to provide our full service — from home measuring to expert fitting — right at your doorstep.
  • Do you charge for measuring visits or quotes?
No, we never charge for quotes. At BWD Shutters, we like to keep things simple and efficient. Unlike many companies, we start by asking you to send us photos of the windows you'd like shutters for. This allows us to give you a quick and accurate estimate for the work. If you're happy with the estimate and we're a good fit for each other, we’ll then arrange a free home visit to take precise measurements, show you samples, and finalise the design. This approach saves time and makes the process smoother — while still ensuring you get made-to-measure shutters that are perfectly fitted to your home.
  • What’s the typical lead time from quote to fitting?
Our standard lead time for made-to-measure shutters is typically around 12 weeks, depending on the style and material you choose. This applies to most of our hardwood and custom colour shutters, as they are individually crafted to fit your windows perfectly. If you need your shutters fitted sooner, we also offer a fast-track option where we can supply and fit faux wood shutters in as little as 3 weeks. This option is ideal if you're working to a tight deadline, though it comes with a more limited range of styles and finishes, and a slightly higher cost.
  • Do you install only wooden shutters, or do you also alternatives?
At BWD Shutters, we offer both hardwood shutters and faux wood shutters (sometimes known as MDF or composite shutters). Our real wood shutters are perfect for those looking for a high-end, natural finish with beautiful grain and long-lasting quality. For more humid areas like bathrooms or kitchens, our faux wood shutters are a fantastic alternative — they’re moisture-resistant, durable, and easy to clean, while still offering a stylish, classic look. Whether you're after wooden shutters in Bristol for a living room, or waterproof faux wood shutters for a bathroom, we’ll help you choose the best option for your space and budget.
  • Do you offer colour matching or custom colours?
Yes, we offer a wide range of shutter styles, colours, and finishes to suit every type of home and interior. From classic whites and greys to warm wood stains and bold statement colours, we’ll help you find the perfect look for your space. Some of our shutter ranges also include a custom colour option, which allows you to match your shutters to your existing décor or paintwork — ideal for creating a seamless finish in any room. Whether you're after neutral tones for a modern home or bespoke shutters in a bold colour, we've got plenty of options to choose from
  • Do you offer waterproof options for bathrooms and kitchens?
Yes, we do. Our faux wood shutters are fully waterproof and moisture-resistant, making them an excellent choice for bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms, or any space with high humidity. These shutters are designed to look just like real wood but are made from durable materials that won’t warp, crack, or peel when exposed to steam or moisture. They're also easy to wipe clean, making them a low-maintenance solution for busy homes. If you're looking for waterproof window shutters in Bristol or the surrounding areas, we’ll help you choose the best style to suit your space while keeping it practical and stylish
  • Do shutters help with insulation or soundproofing?
Yes, window shutters do offer extra insulation and sound reduction. When closed, shutters create a solid barrier between your window and the room, helping to reduce heat loss in the winter and keep rooms cooler in the summer.
